Groove Juice Swing, established in 2004, is based in Rochester, NY and specializes in the original swing dance, Lindy Hop, and related dances like Vernacular Solo Jazz Dance, Charleston, and Balboa. These dances were created by Black dancers in the 1920's and 1930's, and Groove Juice Swing is honored to authentically present these art forms and keep alive the memory of its originators. Groove Juice Swing offers dance classes, weekly social dances, live band dance events, performances, and dance workshops throughout the year that channel the joyful fun of the Lindy Hop. Annual events include Stompology, an internationally renowned solo jazz workshop weekend; the Flower City Lindy Classic, a friendly local dance competition; and the Red Hot Holiday Ball, a free social dance and party dedicated to all of the newest swing dancers in the community. Swing dancers can be spotted multiple times per week in their newly remodeled ballroom in Rochester's South Wedge neighborhood. Groove Juice Swing continuously offers adult beginner, intermediate, and advanced Lindy Hop and swing dance lessons. Wednesday evening is Lindy Jam, the weekly DJed swing dance hosted by Groove Juice Swing. Lindy Jam's friendly atmosphere makes it the perfect venue to meet the scene, take a free introductory lesson, practice those dance moves learned in class, and have a great time! Once a month, Groove Juice Swing presents the Groove Juice Special, a social dance on a weekend evening preceded by a free introductory swing dance lesson. Periodically, local or national jazz bands are booked for the event.
