Our story began in 1980 when our parents, Pat and Danny, took a gamble and opened a convenience store at this very location. It started out as just a small store selling the typical items you would find at a corner store. But, dad had other ideas! He set up a little “kitchen” in the parking lot and started selling hot dogs and hamburgers…and they were a hit! So we put in a real kitchen and started cooking everything from burgers to fish fries to cold subs.
Being a sole proprietor was a lot of hard work and countless hours. But, they had help…three little girls…Nicki, Mary and Lisa…not sure how much help that really was! But, we did what we could and we learned a lot about life, customer service and having a strong work ethic. We all continued to work at the store well into our high school and college years.
But, 14 years later, it was time to sell the business. The girls were in college and the parents “attempted” retirement. That didn’t last long! They opened a restaurant, Uncle Danny’s, in Irondequoit which we still own today. We sold the convenience store and leased the building for about 20 years.
But, it was clear to us we needed to make a change at the store. So we decided to put up a new building and open Highland Market Bakery and Deli! It is once again run by the family. You might even run into the sons-in law and grandchildren too!
Our goal is to provide quality freshly prepared food and products at the most affordable prices. We have a wide range of products that you won’t typically find in a corner store. If you don’t see something, we will do our best to get it for you!
We have enjoyed reconnecting with old friends and making new ones! Come in and introduce yourself…we would love to meet you!
